GDW AND GETEC TO ESTABLISH COOPERATION AIMED AT ENERGY TRANSITION IN REAL ESTATE SECTOR
Berlin/Magdeburg - GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungs- und Immobilienunternehmen (federal association of German housing and real estate companies) and GETEC have sealed their efforts for the energy transition in the real estate sector in a joint cooperation.
In a first step, the cooperation will focus on the practical implementation of sector coupling as part of the energy transition in Germany. This will involve replacing obsolete night storage heaters with new storage heaters for GdW members throughout Germany using a model developed by GETEC. The exchange is cost-neutral for both owners and tenants. The advantage lies in the demand- and forecast-oriented loading of the significantly more efficient heaters as well as in the CO2-neutral supply on the basis of an ecological electricity product. This saves an average of around 5 metric tons of CO2 per residential unit per year and significantly improves comfort in the apartments. If all night storage heaters installed in Germany were replaced, this could save around 5 million tons of CO2 per year.
"The energy world of tomorrow is decentralized, digital and green - and it is also better connected. The real estate industry and the energy industry must therefore grow together in order to be successful across sectors. We are delighted to have gained a forward-looking and strategic partner in GdW, which acts both economically and ecologically," said Michael Lowak, Segment CEO Real Estate at GETEC Group.
"We are working flat out on innovative solutions to implement the energy transition in an affordable way for tenants and socially oriented housing companies. The cooperation with GETEC is an important part on the way to our goal of tenants and building owners working together to make housing increasingly climate-friendly with the help of decentralized and digital climate protection projects," says Axel Gedaschko, President of GdW.
