GETEC and Clariant win Dena Energy Efficiency Award 2019

The project partners GETEC and Clariant won the coveted Dena Energy Efficiency Award in the category "Concepts for increasing energy efficiency". On Monday evening, GETEC Group CEO Thomas Wagner presented the concept on behalf of the project partners to around 500 decision-makers from politics and business at this year's dena Congress in Berlin. Unlike in the three other award-winning categories, the vote was cast by the public vote via mobile phone.

The prize was awarded for the efficient energy solution for a joint lighthouse project of both project partners in Podari, Romania. Clariant is building an industrial-scale bioethanol production facility there. According to the patented sunliquid® process, bioethanol is produced from the agricultural residue wheat straw. In turn, GETEC uses the lignin residue from production to generate energy in order to supply Clariant's entire production with heat and electricity - sustainably, efficiently and innovatively.

We are very pleased with the award and the opportunity to get a lot of attention for this great joint project and our solutions," explains GETEC Group CEO Thomas Wagner.

"Our project in Podari is a beacon project for the entire company. We are proud to build a cellulose ethanol plant at the highest level while setting new standards in terms of CO2 emissions. Together with GETEC, we will achieve a CO2-neutral steam and power supply for the plant," adds Dr. Markus Rarbach, Head of Business Line Biofuels and Derivatives at Clariant.
