ARYZTA BAKERIES DEUTSCHLAND GMBH, LUTHERSTADT EISLEBEN LOCATION
At the site in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, Germany, GETEC has implemented a power generation system based on two fast-start natural gas engines and an intelligent load management system.
THE CHALLENGE
ARYZTA Bakeries Deutschland GmbH at its Lutherstadt Eisleben site is one of Europe's leading sites in the frozen baked goods sector. Because of the use of many refrigeration machines, the location requires a great deal of electrical energy. The increase in electricity costs in Germany in recent years has put a strain on the competitiveness of production in Germany. At the same time, an uninterruptible power supply is of paramount importance to ARYZTA and must be guaranteed in the future.
THE GOAL
With the aim of relieving the existing network infrastructure of the network operators, ARYZTA was looking for a way to significantly reduce its own load peaks at the Lutherstadt Eisleben site and thus make them more predictable. At the same time, the existing network fees should be significantly reduced.
OUR SOLUTION
GETEC built a power generation plant based on two fast-start natural gas engines and an intelligent load management system. This ensures that ARYZTA does not exceed a predefined threshold value for the purchased electricity output. If electricity peaks are nevertheless imminent, the natural gas engines are switched on, for example, and part of the electricity is produced locally, thus taking the burden off the grid. As a result, ARYZTA secures the privilege of reducing grid charges by up to 80% in accordance with Section 19 (2) Sentence 2 of the Electricity Grid Charges Ordinance (StromNEV), also known colloquially as the “7,000h rule”.
